Our Document Delivery Service Explained

We hold approximately 2,000 print journals. (Please visit www.bma.org.uk/journals to see the full list.) Every one of the articles in all of the issues of these journals can be accessed by anyone in the world, both BMA members and non-members, using our Document Delivery Service.

How to request articles from us
Articles can be requested from us by using an online request form. (There are different versions of the form depending on whether you are a personal member of the BMA, an Institutional member of the Library or a non-member.) The request form can be accessed directly at: www.bma.org.uk/request

How articles will be sent to you
Articles will be sent to you in the form of PDF files by email. Articles can also be sent to you as photocopies by post if you prefer.

How long it will take
Our standard service has a delivery turnaround time of 2 working days. If you are a personal member of the BMA or an Institutional member of the Library you can also make use of our Urgent Action service where articles are supplied to you either on the same day that you request them or within one hour. Both of these urgent delivery options cost more than our standard service.

How much it will cost
The cost of requesting articles from us will vary depending on whether or not you are a member, and also on how quickly you wish to have the articles supplied to you. The price you will be charged is clearly displayed on the online request form against each available option. Paying for the articles supplied
If you are a member we will supply you with the articles that you have requested within the agreed time frame and we will then send you an invoice for the cost of the articles at the end of the calendar month. Personal members also have the option of paying by credit/debit card at the time of placing the request. Non-members must provide card payment details when they place their requests. Please note that payment will only be taken from a card once an article has been successfully supplied. If it is not possible for us to supply you with a copy of an article for any reason we will send you an email to notify you of the reason why and no payment will be taken.

Requesting copies of articles that we don’t hold
If you want a copy of an article from a journal which we do not hold in our print collection, we can obtain it for you from another library, courtesy of our Inter Library Loans Service. This service is only available to members and the option for getting an item from another library appears on the online request form. The cost of obtaining an article from another library is significantly higher.
